Since meeting as NYU Music Business students in the ’00s, Chad King & Ian Axel of A Great Big World have been fusing epic, bigger-than-a-stadium pop sounds with intimate, heartfelt lyrics. The singer-songwriters had their first hit in 2011, with “This Is the New Year” featured on MTV, CBS, ABC, ESPN, The CW, and later performed on Fox’s Glee. When Christina Aguilera heard 2013 single “Say Something” and asked to lend vocals to the track, the band began a meteoric rise that continued with the release of their chart-topping debut Is There Anybody Out There? (Epic), and a Grammy award for Best Pop Duo/Group Performance. Chad and Ian’s voices grew even more confident on 2015 sophomore album When the Morning Comes, which matched their classic, joyful sound with themes of Chad’s coming out and Ian’s relationship with his now-wife. The band released two new singles in 2018 — “Younger” and “You” — as well as penning lead single “Fall On Me” for the legendary Andrea Bocelli, which was also featured in Disney’s The Nutcracker and the Four Realms. A Great Big World is gearing up for a very busy 2019, with more new music to come, and a newfound sense of musical self-discovery.
